PARIS, March 6th, 2007 (AFP) - French ministry of defence ordered 800.000 of biodegradable parachutes links with, besides the ecological concern, that not to provoke any more collateral damages to the ruminants, announced on Tuesday the general Delegation for the armament ( DGA) in an official statement.
Presented at the Agricultural show, at Paris, these links will replace polyamide ties which bind the parachute suspentes, on one hand, and the sail to the bag, of the other hand. Lost in every jump, they put near a century to degrade and may drag the death of ruminants when they are ingested.
The new ties of Vegeplast, young firm of Haute-Garonne, are made from 100% biodegradable materials, as the corn starch, allowing not only their ingestion without danger by ruminants but also guarantees an acceleration of their degradation, within a little more than a month.
It is a world premiere, according to the DGA.
As far, it reassures, these new links respect strong constraints (solidity, resistance in the wrench or the temperature variations). " It is not a big market but it represents a remarkable technical forward which is going to allow us to develop other markets, as those of the truck farmers or arboriculturists, who still use plastic links", explained to AFP the president of Vegeplast, Vincent Pluquet. " Other European armies are also interested ", he indicated.
Vegeplast will be on France 2 on Wednesday, 7 Mars at 1 pm.
